See your beautiful baby in stunning 3D/4D before the big day arrives. We offer 3D and 4D ultrasound scan packages here at Ultrasound Plus, so you can choose the right scan for you.

3D ultrasound scans capture lifelike images of your baby, while 4D will give you more of a detailed view of your baby moving around in real time. These scans aren’t harmful for your baby and are a similar intensity to a 2D ultrasound scan. 3D and 4D ultrasound scans open up a new way to experience and cherish the joy of your family’s newest addition.

All of our 3D baby scans are performed by qualified sonographers who have extensive obstetric scanning experience. We recommend that you pass any information found during your scan on to your GP/healthcare provider to ensure a healthy pregnancy throughout.

What is the purpose of a 3D ultrasound?

Our 3D baby scans obtain 3D images of your unborn baby, while our 4D scans allow you to see real-time footage of your baby’s movement. Growth measurements of the baby will be taken and compared to the usual expectations to determine their gestational age accurately. We’ll also estimate foetal weight. The position of the baby will be identified, and we can confirm whether you’re having a boy or girl if you so wish.

3D Scan FAQs

How accurate are the weights determined during 3D baby scans?

We strive to be as accurate as possible at the Ultrasound Plus clinics. Our foetal weight analysis is an estimate that’s based on a variety of measurements taken during your 3D scan. They should be taken as a guideline for your baby’s weight.

Should I have a 3D ultrasound scan at 33 weeks +?

We recommend having your 3D ultrasound between 24 & 36 weeks, so yes, you can have a 3D scan at 33 weeks and over. Note: the best pictures are taken between 27 and 32 weeks.

How much should I drink before my appointment?

A full bladder is required for your 3D ultrasound so we recommend drinking 1 to 1.5 litres of water prior to your visit.

Who will perform my 3D ultrasound?

We have a team of specialist Sonographers and Consultants with years of experience who will conduct your 3D scan.

Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?

Please bring any hospital notes (if you have them). This will help our Sonographers decide whether a referral is necessary.

Do I still need to attend my NHS scans if I’ve had a scan with Ultrasound Plus?

Yes, you do. Our private 3D ultrasound scans are designed to complement your NHS scans, not replace them.

What happens if I need to be referred?

If the Sonographer/Consultant present for your scan determines that you need to be referred for further treatment, you will be responsible for notifying your GP/Healthcare provider.

How many guests/children can accompany me to my 3D baby scan?

We can accommodate up to 5 guests during your ultrasound scan. We appreciate that seeing your baby is a special moment that you want to share! Please notify your chosen clinic before you arrive if you’d like to bring guests or children with you.
