Ultrasound Technology & 3D scans

See your beautiful baby in stunning 3D before the big day arrives. We offer 3D ultrasound scan packages here at Ultrasound Plus so that you can choose the proper scan for you. Our ultrasound scans are all carried using ultrasound waves, so they are perfectly safe for your baby; not only that 3D ultrasound imaging gives you a complete window to your womb, with modern imaging techniques, you will be able to see your beautiful baby in full.

3D ultrasound scans capture lifelike images of your baby, showing fetal growth and also fetal well-being. At the same time, the scan images are the perfect addition to any mantelpiece or cabinet. The
3D scan images will give you the best look into how your baby’s growth continues throughout your pregnancy.

These scans aren’t harmful to your baby and are a similar intensity to a 2D ultrasound scan. 3D ultrasound scans open up a new way to experience and cherish the joy of your family’s newest addition. Ultrasounds offer non-invasive prenatal testing and give you the joy of seeing your baby before it is born; depending on your baby’s position, we might be able to produce images of their faces and hands.

All of our 3D baby scans are performed by qualified sonographers who have extensive obstetric scanning experience. We recommend that you pass any information found during your scan on to your GP/healthcare provider to ensure a healthy pregnancy throughout. Like all of our ultrasound scans, we will always pass that message on to you if we find anything concerning, such as estimated fetal weight or problems with the baby’s size.

How does a 3D ultrasound work?

Our 3D baby scans obtain 3D images of your unborn baby, while our 4D scans allow you to see real-time footage of your baby’s movement. Growth measurements of the baby will be taken and compared to the usual expectations to determine their gestational age accurately.

We’ll also estimate the foetal weight at current gestation. The baby’s position will be identified, and we can confirm whether you’re having a boy or girl if you so wish.
Both 3D and 4D ultrasound scans require you to have a full bladder to perform the scan, along with the baby being in the correct position to get good images. If your baby is not in the correct place for whatever reason, we will ask you to go for a walk to try and turn the baby, or we will try different angles.

The primary purpose is to allow you to see your baby before it is born. A healthcare professional must check your baby for medical purposes; both intertwined create a helpful experience. Unlike your regular scans, which are black and white images, these will be live photographs.

Why Have A 3D Ultrasound?

Ultrasound imaging is an excellent way for you to find a bond with your baby, especially if you are the father of a family member; seeing the baby before the birth can be a huge step for parents to be, both 3D 4D scans are perfect for the live motion window into the womb. Professional sonographers always perform the 3D scans we offer here at Ultrasound Plus, and you will always be in good hands. We will offer you a fetal well-being scan, a growth scan, and a check of your placenta, along with seeing your baby.
3D ultrasounds are an excellent way for a medical professional to see your baby and measure their growth; these scans are carried out for the following reasons;

  1. A third-trimester fetal wellbeing scan and growth scan are not routinely offered within the NHS
  2. We recommend a 3D scan and growth scan if there has been a previous history of premature delivery
  3. 3D scans offer extra reassurance to you about your pregnancy
  4. You would like to see your baby and have a comprehensive and detailed ultrasound scan

What happens if my baby does not pose for the 3D/4D scan?

The baby needs to be in a favourable position for the face to be seen clearly. This may take up to 30 minutes. If the placenta is at the front of your womb (anterior), this can affect how your baby’s face can be seen. An increased maternal BMI can limit ultrasound scans.

We may ask you to take a short walk, a hot or cold drink or a snack to encourage your baby to move. If we cannot complete the scan on the day due to the baby’s position, we will invite you to return for another appointment free of charge.
