Find out exactly how many weeks you are with our Pregnancy Dating Scan here at our Ultrasound Plus clinics. We measure gestational age from the first day of the woman’s last menstrual period to the current date. During the scan we will also measure the Crown Rump Length of your baby (CRL) and use these measurements to help determine an accurate gestational age in weeks.

Knowing just how far you are into your pregnancy will be incredibly helpful throughout the process and will help you prepare for the big day. All of our scans are performed by qualified sonographers who have plenty experience in pregnancy scanning.

We provide our dating scans from as early as 8 weeks. In a lot of cases, the earlier you have your dating scan, the most accurate it will be at estimating your baby’s due date.

Dating Scan FAQs

How accurate are dating scans?

We strive to be as accurate as possible at our Ultrasound Plus clinics. Typically, the earlier you can come in for dating scan, the more accurate your estimated due date will be. It’s worth keeping in mind that only around 5% of babies are actually born on their expected due date.

Is a dating scan from conception?

No, a dating scan is measured from the first day of your last menstrual period to the current date. This day counts as day one of your pregnancy. This is more accurate than trying to figure out the exact date you conceived.

How much water should I drink before my dating scan?

We recommend you drink at least 1 litre of water 20 minutes or more prior to your appointment.

Who will perform my dating scan?

We have a team of professional sonographers who will perform your scan using our best equipment. All of our sonographers are accredited by either the Health Professional Council, The General Medical Council, Society of Radiographers or the Royal College of Midwives.

Do I need to bring anything along to my appointment?

Please bring along any hospital notes you may have about your pregnancy as they can help assist our sonographers.

Do I still need to visit the NHS if I had a scan at Ultrasound Plus?

Our services are complimentary alongside the NHS scans so it is important you still go to them.

What happens in terms of referrals?

We advise our customers to let their GP/midwife know they are planning to have a scan with us at Ultrasound Plus. Prior to your appointment, we will provide you with a registration form which will also require your GP/midwife’s details. It is your responsibility to let them know the results of your scan.

How many guests/children can come with me to my growth scan?

We can happily fit up to 5 friends and family in the room with you during your appointment.
