Are you excited to find out whether you will be having a baby boy or girl? Ultrasound Plus is here to make that moment even more special with our Gender Ultrasound.

We can determine the gender of your baby with 90% accuracy and have been doing so for over 10 years. It should be noted that no ultrasound can provide 100% confirmation as some foetuses can be ambiguous. To help the result be as accurate as it can be, our qualified sonographers may ask you to walk around and move your baby into a different position if they are not 100% confident.

With our special private gender scan, you will also receive a range of keepsakes for you to take home and treasure the moment. For the additional 2D DVD, we recommend this up to 22 weeks as your baby may be too big to see clearly at a later date.

What does a gender ultrasound include?

A handwritten wellbeing assessment report
1 x 2D black and white images in a mounted card frame
2 x 2D black and white keyrings
4D sneak preview (optional from 12 - 22 weeks)
10 minute appointment

What is the purpose of a gender ultrasound?

A gender ultrasound works to confirm whether your baby is a boy or a girl. These are also known as sexing scans. Your private gender scan will also look to confirm the health of your foetus, confirm foetal gestation age and the your placental position during your appointment.

Gender Ultrasound FAQs

When is the best time to determine the sex of the baby?

A gender ultrasound can be performed from 16-40 weeks gestation. However, we recommend a minimum booking of around 17 weeks, especially if you hold a higher BMI. Our sonographers will not disclose your baby’s sex unless they are 100% sure so it is important you book your Gender Ultrasound at the right time.

What if you cannot confirm the gender during my appointment?

If we cannot determine the sex of your baby during your gender ultrasound, we will request you take a short walk or move around a bit until the baby moves into a different position. We will then attempt to rescan 3 times and if we are still unable to confirm the gender, we will invite you back free of charge for a five-minute appointment to re-confirm your baby’s gender. This rescan is only available if you are over 16 weeks. If you have booked in before 16 weeks, you will need to pay in full again to confirm the gender at a later date.

How much water do I need to drink before my gender ultrasound?

We recommend you drink approximately 1 litre of water, a least 20 minutes prior to your gender ultrasound. If possible, drink more - but don’t make yourself uncomfortable.

Who will perform the scan?

Our team of friendly qualified sonographers will perform your gender ultrasound. They are accredited across many medical bodies and also work within the NHS alongside their role in Ultrasound Plus.

What do I need to bring to my gender ultrasound?

Please bring along your hospital notes (if you have them) so our sonographers can consult them if a referral is required.

Will Ultrasound Plus advise me of any abnormalities in my scan?

It’s important to keep in mind that our scans do not replace the NHS pregnancy scans. As standard procedure, our scans include a well-being check and if any abnormalities are detected we will discuss it in full and provide a full report to your health practitioner.

Do I still need to visit the NHS if I had a Gender Scan with you?

As mentioned above, it is important you still go to your NHS scans as our gender ultrasounds are a complementary service which works alongside the NHS.

What happens in terms of referrals?

We advise all customers to let their GP or midwife know that they intent to book a scan with us. Once you reach your Ultrasound Plus clinic, we will ask you to complete a registration form which will request your GP/midwife’s details. It is your responsibility to report your findings to your GP/midwife.

How many guests/children can come with me?

We know the big reveal is an important milestone in your pregnancy, so up to 5 family and friends are able to come with you to your Gender Ultrasound.
