Growth scans are offered as part of the third-trimester growth spurt from sonographers across the country, including our team here at Ultrasound Plus. An NHS growth scan is only offered to those pregnant women who have a baby below the correct estimated fetal weight, whereas we can offer them to any pregnant women who would like one.

Also known as a well-being or positioning scan, a private Growth Scan from Ultrasound Plus will provide you with the reassurance you need. We will be able to check the placental blood flow and also assess the risk of gestational diabetes.
The fetal growth scan is beneficial to look at when there is any concern about the growth/size of your baby, especially for women when have had complications, growth restriction or diabetes. Your baby’s head, abdomen, thigh bone will be assessed, alongside the amount of amniotic fluid, doppler study and weight of the baby at current gestation.
As this scan is available up to 38 weeks gestation, depending on the baby’s size, the 2D images you receive with this scan may not always be as clear. Therefore, if you’re most interested in the images, we recommend booking this appointment sooner rather than later.
All of our scans are performed by professional sonographers who also work at the NHS, so you can be sure you will be in good hands. We advise that anything found during your private growth scan is reported to your GP/Healthcare provider. Any immediate concerns will be relayed to you, which you need to discuss with your midwife.

During your third trimester, you may be wondering just how big your baby is getting. A growth scan, offered between 24 to 38 weeks gestation, assesses the baby’s head, abdomen and femur. It will then estimate the baby’s foetal weight and measure how much amniotic fluid surrounds the baby.
Your placental position will also be identified, and a doppler study is available upon request. We can also let you know your baby’s gender during your scan if you would like this.
Book now or email info@ultrasoundplus.co.uk for more information about this scan; our team are always more than happy to discuss your specific needs and requirements from our ultrasound department. Bear in mind that depending on your baby’s position, you may or may not get an entirely accurate reading of the size of your baby; if this is the case we will ask you to go for a walk.

“We have now had 3 scans at the Brentwood branch, and the staff are lovely! This has been our favourite private clinic.. the sonographer Teresa is lovely, she explains everything in so much detail and doesn’t rush through the scan! No doubt we will be back again before our baby comes.”

A private growth scan is an ultrasound scan that is used to measure the size of the baby and check for any abnormalities. It is usually performed between 18 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. During the scan, the sonographer will measure the baby’s head, abdomen, and femur (thigh bone) to determine the baby’s size. The scan can also be used to check for any abnormalities in the baby’s development.
A presentation scan is an ultrasound scan that is used to determine the position of the baby in the womb. It is usually performed between 28 and 32 weeks of pregnancy. During the scan, the sonographer will check to see if the baby is head down or breech (bottom down). This information can be used to plan for a vaginal delivery or a caesarean section.
