Our Kidney, Ureters & Bladder scan is a detailed investigation using ultrasound technology to look at the size, character and shape of the kidneys, ureter, full bladder and empty bladder.

This scan is recommended if you are experiencing abdominal pain, blood in urine and pain when emptying your bladder. This private kidney, ureters and bladder scan will detect any obstructions caused by kidney stones, bladder stones or urinary tract infections.

Available to patients over the age of 16 years old. Prior to your scan, please drink at least one litre of water before your scan as we will be scanning the bladder when it is full and empty. If any abnormalities are found during the scan, we recommend you report your findings to your GP/Healthcare provider.

What is the purpose of a kidney, ureters & bladder scan?

The purpose of a kidney, ureters & bladder scan is to detect any underlying conditions which could be the cause of any discomfort. This private kidney scan investigates the kidney and the surrounding areas, such as the ureters and bladder. It will detect any cysts, obstructions, tumours, abscesses or infection about the kidneys.

This scan may also be recommended after a kidney transplant to check how well the kidney is adjusting to the body.

Can I eat and drink before my scan?

Yes. Please drink at least one litre of water before your scan as a full bladder is required.

Who will perform the kidney, ureters & bladder scan?

All of our sonographers are qualified with diagnostic general ultrasound scanning experience and are accredited by either the Health Professional Council, The General Medical Council or Society of Radiographers and also work within the NHS alongside their role within Ultrasound Plus.

What do I need to wear for the scan?

We advise that you wear something light, airy and baggy. Otherwise, you may need to change into a gown if necessary.

What do I need to bring to my kidney, ureters & bladder scan?

Please bring along your hospital notes (if you have been given them) and reports to assist out Sonographers if a referral is required.

Will you advise me of any abnormalities?

Please note, our scans do not replace any of your NHS scans. During your appointment, in any event of a medical referral being required, we will discuss this with you and provide a full report for you to forward on to your health practitioner.

Do I still need to visit the NHS if I had a scan with you?

Yes, our services are a complementary service, which works alongside the NHS.

What happens in terms of referrals?

We advise all of our customers to advise their GP/Healthcare provider know of their intention to have a scan with us. On arrival at Ultrasound Plus we will ask you to complete a registration form, where your GP/Healthcare provider details will be requested. If from the kidney, ureters & bladder scan there shows a need to contact or share any information regarding your scan, you are responsible for providing the report to your GP/Healthcare provider.
