We can happily fit up to five friends and family in the room with you during your appointment.
Available from 8 to 16 Weeks Gestation
When you reach around your twelfth week of pregnancy, you will be offered an ultrasound scan. This appointment is routine for every pregnant woman, and your midwife will make the dating scan ultrasound appointment with you. You may or may not have already had an early pregnancy scan to confirm the pregnancy after your first positive test, but a 8 week scan will be able to provide you with much clearer pictures than between five and 8 weeks. With this being said, what is a dating scan?
Generally, at 8 weeks of pregnancy, the ultrasound scan uses high-frequency sound waves from a probe that is then passed over the tummy to provide us with an image of your baby, safely and non-invasively. You may find the ultrasound gel a little cold at first, but an ultrasound offers a great way to see your baby’s development. The 12-week scan is an exciting stage, as you can hear your baby’s heartbeat and see them on the screen.
If you are 8 weeks pregnant, why not book with one of our professional sonographers today? You can visit us at one of our clinics in London, Brentwood, Birmingham, Watford, Leicester, or Kingston upon Thames. As part of the NHS screening programmes, you will be very well looked after.
With our private pregnancy dating scan, we measure gestational age from the first day of the woman’s last menstrual period to the current date, which also allows us to give you an estimated date of conception and delivery. During the scan, we will also measure the crown-rump length of your baby (CRL) and use these measurements to help determine an accurate gestational age in weeks.
Knowing how far you are into your pregnancy will be incredibly helpful throughout the process. All our scans are performed by qualified sonographers who have plenty of experience in pregnancy scanning.
Your sonographer will apply slight pressure on your tummy to get the best image we can of your baby’s body, and you can rest assured that most scans are carried out with no complications. Despite this, some babies like to lie in an awkward position, meaning we may struggle to get a clear image. In many cases, the earlier you have your pregnancy dating ultrasound, the more accurate it will be at estimating your baby’s due date.

Private dating scan uses include the verifying of the foetal gestation age. Measurements of the CRL (crown-rump length) will be taken and it will be confirmed whether you are carrying one or multiple babies. Remember, if this is your first scan, you must go to all ultrasound scan appointments with a full bladder!
Booking a scan with us couldn’t be easier, simply book online, give us a call on 0203 960 7960, or email us at info@ultrasoundplus.co.uk.
We strive to be as accurate as possible at our Ultrasound Plus clinics. Typically, the earlier you can come in for a dating scan, the more accurate your estimated due date will be. It’s worth keeping in mind that only around 5% of babies are actually born on their expected due date.
No, a dating scan is measured from the first day of your last menstrual period to the current date. This day counts as day one of your pregnancy. This is more accurate than trying to figure out the exact date you conceived.
The dating scan preparation involves drinking at least one litre of water 20 minutes or more before your appointment.
We have a team of professional sonographers who will perform your scan using our best equipment. All of our sonographers are accredited by either the Health Professional Council, the General Medical Council, the Society of Radiographers, or the Royal College of Midwives.
Please bring along any hospital notes you may have about your pregnancy, as they can assist our sonographers.
Our services are complimentary alongside NHS scans, so it is important you still go to them.
We advise our customers to let their GP/midwife know they are planning to have a scan with us at Ultrasound Plus. Before your appointment, we will provide you with a registration form which will also require your GP/midwife’s details. It is your responsibility to let them know the results of your scan.
We can happily fit up to five friends and family in the room with you during your appointment.
“We have now had 3 scans at the Brentwood branch, and the staff are lovely! This has been our favourite private clinic.. the sonographer Teresa is lovely, she explains everything in so much detail and doesn’t rush through the scan! No doubt we will be back again before our baby comes.”
